Staff Tip

My top tip for San Francisco is to be very prepared for its unpredictable weather, it can actually be chilly in the summer and hot in October! If you are lucky enough to get a clear day make sure to take in the sights of the magnificent Golden Gate Bridge. Just across from the bay is the picturesque city of Sausalito where you can do some wine tasting, paddle boarding or just cosy up in one of the many boutique bars or restaurants. A must-see is Alcatraz, we recommend to book in advance as tickets sell out, it really is a one of a kind trip.

Attractions

No holiday to San Francisco is complete without a visit to the city’s famous symbol, the Golden Gate Bridge. The most photographed bridge in the world, it claims to have enough wire in its structure to stretch across the earth several times. Walking across the bridge is the best way to take in the beautiful view of the San Francisco skyline and bay. In the middle of San Francisco Bay, ‘The Rock’ or Alcatraz Island is one of the city’s most popular tourist destinations. Regarded as an escape-proof prison, that once held notorious prisoners such as ‘Al Capone and George ‘Machine Gun’ Kelly. Visitors can explore the prison and learn about its history and the famed escape attempts.

Shopping

Pier 39 at Fisherman’s Wharf is the commercial tourist epicentre with shops, stalls, bars, restaurants and street performers as well as the famous Fish Alley Market. One of the most entertaining attractions down at Fisherman’s Wharf is that reside on the floating docks – be sure to go say hello. Fisherman’s Wharf is also home to a broad range of museums. Union Street and Union Square are paradise for shoppers, from boutiques to the well-known American labels. For quirkier items, check out the city’s China town

Nightlife

San Francisco has a diverse, lively nightlife scene and each district has a unique selection of bars, clubs and lounges for you to enjoy. San Francisco’s SoMa neighbourhood is great for electronic and hip hop clubs, while in the mission disctrict you’ll find an alternative space for smaller intimate venues. North Beach opens until the early morning and is full of neon lit bars and packed clubs.
