The 4th of July is one of the biggest holidays in the United States. Cities across the country celebrate Independence Day with barbecues, parades and of course, fireworks. The 4th of July is an amazing time to visit the USA, not only is the energy buzzing but the weather is warm and there are so many free events to be enjoyed during the week of the 4th. 1. New York City

New York City is the apple of America’s eye, boasting some of the best music, food and nightlife in the country, so it’s no surprise that the city that never sleeps goes all out for its 4th of July celebrations. Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks is the nation’s largest Independence Day display which dazzles the shorelines of Manhattan, Queens and Brooklyn with a spectacular display of colour, light and sound! Celebrate Independence day the good old fashioned American way with a hot dog and a beer at a baseball game, Don’t miss the NY Yankees as they take on Toronto on July 4th. There’s no better day to learn about the city’s history, take the Revolutionary New York Walking Tour and walk around Downtown Manhattan learning about New York’s role in the Revolutionary War, an interesting way to spend the holiday. The nightlife is amazing in New York every day of the year, but on July 4th it’s even better, start by taking in the firework displays in a trendy rooftop bar before hitting a nightclub in Chelsea and taking the celebrations into the early hours of the morning. Whatever your plans for the 4th, celebrate it with a bang in New York City.

There’s no better place to celebrate the birth of a nation than in its capitol, Washington turns into one huge block party in honour of Independence Day. Wave your stars and stripes along Constitution Avenue for Washington’s National Independence Day Parade, this is a huge, loud and energetic parade which attracts millions each year. It’s the perfect way to start off the festivities. This year The Smithsonian Folklife Festival falls on July 4th, a festival of folk life from around the world with food and drink, circus acts, craftwork demos, concerts and much more, it’s a cool and quirky way to spend the day. What’s the 4th of July without a fireworks display, head up to the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool with a blanket and some chairs where they’re launched and take in the sights and sounds of this enormous display.

 

3. Philadelphia

Philadelphia is where it all began, The birthplace of the nation, Philadelphia is the home of the Declaration of Independence, where else would you want to celebrate Independence Day? The Benjamin Franklin Parkway hosts one of the largest free celebrations in the country for July 4th, make sure to head to Party on the Parkway for one big bash. After the party ends you’ve the Wawa Welcome America July 4th Concert, a huge, free outdoor concert which saw Mary J. Blige headlining 2017’s celebrations. Following after the concert at around 9:30pm is the mystical Wawa Welcome America Grand Finale Fireworks which will take crowds on a 241 year journey from July 4th 1776 to July 4th 2018. Accompanied by a powerful soundtrack and historical quotes, this is the ultimate grand finale to a jam packed day of celebrations. The party doesn’t have to end here, hit the clubs on South Street and celebrate freedom until dawn.

 

4. Las Vegas

Everyone should visit Las Vegas at least once in their life, and there’s no better time than the 4th of July. Las Vegas is wild, and things get bigger and better on Independence day, with hotel bars, casinos and parties all opening earlier than usual. Pool parties are massive in Vegas, and what better way to enjoy the 4th of July than tanning under the Las Vegas sunshine. There’s so many to choose from with many hosting coupling the fun of a pool party with major DJ’s, head to the MGM Grand’s Wet Republic for a guaranteed good time where big names like Steve Aoki and Tiesto play regularly. On Independence Day, the LINQ Promenade, Vegas’ open air entertainment district, brings out caricature artists, magicians, games and entertainers, a more low key way to spend the day. Spend your night admiring multiple firework displays light up the sky or roll the dice until dawn as you try your luck at any of the famous casinos. Sin city is waiting for you!

 

5. San Francisco

San Francisco is the best place to spend the 4th of July on the west coast. Pier 39 celebrates Independence Day with live music, pier front food and drink and of course a spectacular firework display over the waterfront to bring the party to a close. Enjoy the festivities at the Filmore Jazz Festival, two days of live music with multiple stages, arts and crafts and gourmet cuisine on the picture perfect Filmore Street.
