Things to do in Orlando

If I had to describe an Orlando holiday in two words, it would be ‘Endless Fun’. I was lucky enough to spend a week there with the help of Do Something Different & Universal. We stayed in the brand-new Aventura Hotel, which only opened its doors in August 2018. This hotel is sleek and modern. iPads are used to turn the lights and television on and off! The staff were extremely helpful, and the hotel was spotless.

Our itinerary was jam packed, but I enjoyed every minute of it. There are so many things to do in Orlando, you will be spoiled for choice.

Location

Orlando is a city in central Florida nicknamed "Theme Park Capital of the World". We stayed in The Aventura Hotel, which is only 25 minutes from Orlando International Airport.

The Universal parks were right next to us, only a short shuttle bus or water taxi away, which were free and very regular. Universal’s Citywalk, Studios and Island of Adventure were all within walking distance of each other. If you are going downtown outside of the resort I would recommend UBER as it is a lot cheaper than the local taxis.

What I Loved

I’m a horror fan so I just loved Universal’s Halloween Horrors! There are 10 horror houses to go through and plenty of scare zones dotted around the park. If you can stretch your budget I would recommend paying for VIP tickets, it is well worth it as the queues can be 2/3 hours long! The price for the RIP tour would be approx. $160 on top of your admission ticket.

Activities

  • Volcano Bay, the new water park is an attraction that you just cannot miss at Universal Orlando Resort.

Volcano Bay

  • Blue Man Group is a show we went to see which can only be described as...different. You will either love it or hate it!
  • I’ll never forget getting the red-carpet treatment with a VIP Tour of Universal Studios and Island of Adventures.

Shopping

We had a free night during the week, so we went shopping at the Orlando Premium International Outlets, lots of good bargains to be had.

Food & Bars

We ate and drank at a few different restaurants along Universal’s Citywalk some being Toothsome Chocolate Emporium & Savory Feast Kitchen, The Cowfish and Pat O Brien’s Irish Bar. During the day we availed of the dining card where we had food in the parks at Krusty Burger in Simpson’s Land and some other grab and go restaurants. You could also take a taxi down to International Drive, where you'll find more great restaurants and a great atmosphere.

Overall, I would highly recommend Orlando for families, couples and anyone looking to have a great time. You will be tired as there is a lot of walking involved when it comes to the parks, but you will have a great night’s sleep after a fun-filled day!
