Things to do in Philadelphia

Things to do in Philadelphia

I had the pleasure of visiting Philadelphia in April this year, I fell in love with the city’s history, culture and food.  With Aer Lingus flying direct to Philadelphia International Airport, ‘’The City that Loves you Back’’ is easily accessible. We took a taxi to our hotel, but I recommend taking the regional rail as it Is quicker and cheaper. If only I knew beforehand!

I made myself at home in the 4-Star Hilton Penn’s Landing. The views of the river from the indoor pool were incredible and the Liberty Bell is only a 15-minute walk away.

What I Loved

Rittenhouse Square is just beautiful, I could have spent hours walking around the neighbourhood! Its park is considered one of the finest urban public spaces in the United States. Smoking is not permitted in this park and many other parks across the city. I also enjoyed seeing the blend of cultures, the areas around City Hall and the Museum of Art are very European.

Activities and Places to See

  • A Philadelphia holiday is not complete without seeing Liberty Bell. This iconic symbol of independence attracts tourists year after year.

  • Visit Independence Hall, where the Declaration of Independence and Constitution was signed.

Food & Bars

I think my favourite thing about this Philadelphia holiday was the food. I enjoyed meals in many restaurants and cafes around Rittenhouse Square and 2nd Street. However, the city is known for its Cheesesteak; many say the best ones are served at the award-winning Tony Luke’s.

The city also has a thriving craft beer industry, Yards Brewery is very popular. The atmosphere is great, and they have a huge selection of beer to try. However, it’s not cheap, expect to pay $7 for a beer and $11 for a glass of wine, plus tip.

I loved how easy this city was to navigate. The food, history and beautiful blend of cultures make it truly unique. My advice would be to bear in mind that tipping is necessary and 20% is the norm, eating and drinking out can be expensive so I also recommend booking Bed & Breakfast.
