Getting around

High-speed trains (AVE) are the best way to travel long distances in Spain. These trains connect the major cities such as Barcelona to Madrid or Madrid to Seville in less than 3 hours. Book your ticket in advance as a seat reservation is necessary on many routes.

In Spain, you drive on the right, seat belts are mandatory and there are speed limits of 120 km/h on motorways, 90 km/h on all other roads and 30 km/h in urban areas. You must be 21 years of age and have a valid driving licence. All EU driving licences are valid in Spain. Helmets must be worn on motorbikes, mopeds and bicycles.
